Sphagnum Moss

Sphagnum Moss grows in wetlands and bogs around the world. It has an exceptional ability to absorb and hold water, sometimes retaining many times its weight in moisture. As sphagnum moss dies and accumulates over time, it contributes to the formation of peat, an important carbon-storing material. This moss plays a major role in wetland ecosystems by helping regulate water levels and supporting specialized plant and animal communities.
